In cement production enterprises, a large number of equipment such as belt conveyors and stacker-reclaimers are widely used, and these devices adopt traditional fluid couplings. A fluid coupling is a hydrodynamic transmission device that transfers energy relying on the kinetic energy of its internal oil. It takes liquid oil as the working medium, converts mechanical energy and liquid kinetic energy into each other through the pump impeller and turbine, so as to connect the prime mover and working machinery to realize power transmission. However, during operation, it has disadvantages including complicated installation and disassembly, high requirements for alignment accuracy, and large vibration values, which bring many inconveniences to daily operation and maintenance. In particular, for fluid couplings equipped with brake wheels, the middle elastic spider is extremely prone to damage, and each replacement is laborious and time-consuming.

A CT450132 permanent magnetic coupler installed on a 132kW/1480rpm belt conveyor of the coal handling system for the 2×1,000,000 kW generating units in the Phase III Project of Huainan Pingwei Power Plant has successfully passed the 168-hour trial operation. The relevant experience is summarized as follows.

This paper focuses on introducing the application of permanent magnet transmission technology renovation for the inclined conveyor at Guixi Smelter of Jiangxi Copper Industry, and compares its operation with fluid couplings. The results show that the permanent magnet transmission technology renovation features high reliability, reduced vibration, lower operating noise, and adaptability to frequent start-stop operation.
